Patients and care teams benefit from leading oncology information management solution
Peninsula Health has gone live with the region’s first end-to-end oncology solution Charm Evolution®, supporting better outcomes for cancer patients.
By going live with the digital information management solution provided by Magentus, Peninsula Health – the public health service for the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula region of Victoria – is improving cancer patient safety and care-team workflow and collaboration across their Cancer Care facilities at Frankston and Rosebud Hospitals.
Under previous paper-based approaches, Peninsula Health was challenged by inefficient workflows, a lack of reporting tools, difficulty auditing clinical governance, and was exposed to the risk of medication errors.
Peninsula Health has implemented Charm Evolution® to be able to access information across the organisation more quickly, perform electronic prescribing, and create more efficient scheduling and workflows.
By directly integrating with existing systems, the solution ensures the most up-to-date treatment information is available to the entire care team from anywhere, at any time in Australia.
Patient safety is also improved with more complete patient data and a ‘single source of truth’ replacing multiple paper records.
Charm Evolution®’s automated electronic prescription system is improving quality of patient care by reducing the risk of medication errors that can flow from a manual system.
Pathway standardisation and evidence-based protocols are aiding correct medication prescription and order of administration, while accountability is also enhanced with digital signatures and clearer indication of responsibilities.
By decreasing clinical paperwork, Peninsula Health can increase efficiency across the board and free up clinicians to spend more time on patient care.
Patient capacity is increased and waiting times are reduced thanks to the improved management of cancelled or rescheduled appointments.
About 250 users are utilising Charm Evolution® across Peninsula Health, which receives more than 400 new cancer patient referrals every year from a catchment area of approximately 300,000 people.
Helen Cooper, Peninsula Health Chief Executive, said:
“We chose Charm Evolution® for a range of reasons, including the assistance it provides in delivering patients evidence-based treatment. We are looking forward to the reduction in the time taken to develop and approve patient pathways, thanks to the Charm Evolution® pathway database standardising treatments. We’re also excited by the improved patient experience through more effective scheduling and faster access to appropriate care.”
Margot Mason, Product Lead at Magentus, said:
“We are pleased to be able to help Peninsula Health take this important step in supporting care teams in their day-to-day roles and providing better care for cancer patients. By moving from paper-based to digital information sharing, Charm Evolution® helps simplify workflows and reduces the risk of medication errors, particularly with the introduction of digital prescribing. There will also be much greater patient visibility – what medications they are on, when they are next due for appointments, alerts on their records when they get admitted to hospital – all of which improves patient safety.”
