Short Summary

As a valued member of a dynamic team, the purpose of the Clinical Safety Officer (CSO) is to manage and oversee the assurance of safety related health IT software. The CSO is responsible for ensuring the product being delivered to clients meets the required safety standards, along with any products and services being delivered in partnership with external suppliers and organisation.

The position is required to continuously consult and collaborate with the Product, Development, Quality team and technical staff and client sites to assist with risk assessment and mitigation of risk across multiple disciplines during software development and configuration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all product safety related risks are formally documented, appropriately risk assessed and mitigated.
  • Ensure risks identified are regularly reviewed and mitigation actions are monitored and managed appropriately.
  • Manage and review the clinical risk procedure and ensure policy is up to date.
  • Liaise with Learning and Dev to ensure that all relevant staff have sufficient training pertinent to their role.
  • Lead the Clinical Advisory Group (CAG) for Magentus EMEA
  • Attend Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings to advise on triage of any clinical risks raised.
  • Sign-off and monitor mitigation of Digital Clinical risks.
  • Ensure up to date hazard log and regular risk assessment review as appropriate.
  • Advise the wider team as required and make recommendations from a clinical perspective.
  • Ensure together with Learning and Development that all members of the team, as appropriate, have adequate training in clinical risk management pertinent to their role.
  • Ensure that their own Clinical Safety knowledge is current with support from available NHSE and
    external training sources and curriculum

Sub Responsibilities:

  • Assess potential hazards, implement clinical risk analysis, evaluation and control, and collaborate with product teams to maintain ongoing compliance with clinical safety standards.
  • Writing up/ updating Clinical Safety Case Reports /Safety Cases and Hazard registers
  • Maintain each of the product Hazard registers grouped per domain i.e. Maternity, Radiology, EHR
  • Update the hazard register with any new hazards, close hazards no longer required or amend any existing hazards where necessary throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Review and input on Clinical Safety cases written by Team members
  • Review the Safety Management process document in conjunction with the Clinical Advisory Group, Magentus Compliance Manager or designated person
  • Chair Monthly incident meetings with Problem Manager, 3rd Line support.
  • Oversight of Incident management and Hazard assessments/ Jira Clinical Safety Service tickets
  • Provide Clinical Safety documentation to customers via the Product Manager
  • The Clinical safety officer/ Clinical Advisory Group or designated person will update the hazard register with any new hazards, close hazards no longer required or amend any existing hazards where necessary throughout the product lifecycle.

What do I need?

  • Registration with a professional body providing UK clinician status is essential (HCPC Registered)
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification and experience in IT healthcare/clinical will be highly regarded
  • Previous clinical experience and expertise in a clinical risk assessment as part of a Clinical safety function for DCB0129/DCB0160 within the Healthcare Software Industry
  • Familiarity of NHS environment, regulations and expectations is highly desirable
  • Previous experience in Maternity or Radiology is preferred but not essential
  • Ability to perform functional and clinical risk assessments competently
