Short Summary
The Head of Product Engineering – EMEA is responsible for leading and scaling our UK Engineering team, overseeing all technical aspects of product development through to customer delivery and ensuring the team deliver against their roadmaps. The role requires a strong degree of technical background and product development, exceptional leadership skills and the ability to collaborate across functions to deliver high quality, innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities of the role:
- Collaborate closely with the Engineering Leadership Team and Technology Leadership Group to shape and implement the Group Technology Strategy.
- Partner with the APAC team to align engineering practices, patterns, and tools with the broader Technology Strategy.
- Guide the development of technical and product roadmaps, ensuring engineering efforts are aligned with business goals and contribute to strategic success.
- Build and inspire a high-performing engineering team by attracting, mentoring, and nurturing top talent.
- Support team members by setting clear goals and expectations, fostering a culture of accountability, and promoting technical excellence and operational efficiency.
- Provide mentorship and resources to empower the engineering team to deliver effectively on roadmaps.
- Cultivate a collaborative and inclusive team environment that prioritises innovation and continuous learning.
- Collaborate with the team to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of product features, system architectures, and technical solutions.
- Support the design, architecture, and development of software systems and infrastructure, alongside the delivery of exceptional customer solutions.
- Promote best practices in software engineering, including coding standards, testing, security, version control, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
- Work in partnership with product management, UX/UI, and other business teams to align engineering capabilities with product requirements.
- Encourage cross-departmental collaboration to streamline product development, testing, and deployment processes.
- Translate technical concepts into clear, accessible language for non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and understanding across the organisation.
- Stay ahead of emerging technologies and trends to provide strategic insights and recommendations to the leadership team.
- Lead efforts to explore and adopt new technologies and methodologies, enhancing engineering efficiency and product quality.
- Advocate for modern development frameworks, tools, and processes to accelerate delivery and support scalability.
- Implement systems to monitor, measure, and enhance engineering performance, driving continuous improvement.
- Foster an efficient engineering environment focused on resource optimization, risk management, and ongoing growth.
- Maintain a proactive approach to security, compliance, and best practices throughout all engineering processes
What experience do I need:
Education
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience
- Strong experience in product development lifecycle and agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.).
- Expertise in modern software development practices, patterns and tools (e.g., Git, CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps, AWS, microservices architecture).
- In-depth understanding of the NHS Digital Healthcare Agenda, drive towards preventative medicine and developments in healthcare technology to drive improved patient outcomes
- Previous experience in taking on-premise products and transitioning them to a Cloud environment
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
- Experience in security, scalability, and performance optimization in engineering solutions.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a large and diverse team of engineers.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities, particularly in high-pressure environments.
