Head of Product Engineering – EMEA

Short Summary

The Head of Product Engineering – EMEA is responsible for leading and scaling our UK Engineering team, overseeing all technical aspects of product development through to customer delivery and ensuring the team deliver against their roadmaps. The role requires a strong degree of technical background and product development, exceptional leadership skills and the ability to collaborate across functions to deliver high quality, innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities of the role:

Strategic Leadership

  • Work closely with the Engineering Leadership Team and Technology Leadership Group to define and execute against Group Technology Strategy
  • Work closely with APAC counterparts to ensure engineering practices, patterns and tools are in line with Technology Strategy
  • Drive both the technical and product roadmap, aligning engineering efforts with business goals to achieve strategic outcomes.

Team Management

  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering team by recruiting, mentoring and developing top talent
  • Manage performance, set clear goals and expectations and ensure the team maintains a high standard of technical quality and operational efficiency.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to the engineering team ensuring they have the necessary resources and capabilities to deliver against roadmaps
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture with a focus on innovations and continuous learning

Product & Technical Delivery

  • Ensure the timely and successful delivery of product features, system architectures, and technical solutions.
  • Oversee the design, architecture, and development of software systems and infrastructure.
  • Oversee the delivery and implementation of customer solutions.
  • Ensure best practices for software engineering, including coding standards, testing, security, version control, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with product management, UX/UI, and other business teams to ensure alignment between product requirements and engineering capabilities.
  • Foster collaboration across departments to ensure seamless product development, testing, and deployment processes.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment across the organization.

Innovation & Technology Leadership

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends to provide insight and strategic recommendations to the leadership team.
  • Lead the exploration and adoption of new technologies and methodologies that improve engineering efficiency and product quality.
  • Champion the use of modern development frameworks, tools, and processes to accelerate delivery and maintain scalability.

Operational Excellence

  • Implement and maintain systems for monitoring, measuring, and improving engineering performance.
  • Ensure the engineering department operates efficiently, with a focus on continuous improvement, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Maintain a strong focus on security, compliance, and best practices throughout the engineering processes.

What experience do I need:

Education

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)

Experience

  • Strong experience in product development lifecycle and agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.).
  • Expertise in modern software development practices, patterns and tools (e.g., Git, CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps, AWS, microservices architecture).
  • In-depth understanding of the NHS Digital Healthcare Agenda, drive towards preventative medicine and developments in healthcare technology to drive improved patient outcomes
  • Previous experience in taking on-premise products and transitioning them to a Cloud environment
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Experience in security, scalability, and performance optimization in engineering solutions.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a large and diverse team of engineers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities, particularly in high-pressure environments.
