Short Summary
The Platform Engineer plays a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining the foundational infrastructure, patterns, practices and tooling that enables development teams to deliver high-quality software efficiently and securely. This role focuses on automation, reliability, and scalability of platform services, ensuring seamless developer workflows and operational excellence.
As a Platform Engineer, you will work closely with software engineering teams, security specialists, and cloud infrastructure teams to implement robust solutions that improve system performance, security, and developer productivity. You will be responsible for maintaining and evolving platform services, adopting best practices in infrastructure as code, observability, and DevOps methodologies.
Key Responsibilities of the role:
Platform Development & Automation
- Design, develop, and maintain cloud-native infrastructure and platform services.
- Automate provisioning, scaling, and monitoring of infrastructure and application workloads.
- Develop CI/CD pipelines to enhance deployment efficiency and reliability.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as CDK, Terraform or CloudFormation.
Reliability & Security
- Ensure platform reliability, scalability, and security through best practices and proactive monitoring.
- Implement observability solutions including logging, metrics, and distributed tracing.
- Support incident response and post-mortem analysis, driving continuous improvements.
- Collaborate with security teams to ensure compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
- Work closely with software engineers to enable self-service capabilities and streamline development workflows.
- Advocate for DevSecOps and platform best practices across teams.
- Participate in architectural discussions, providing expertise on platform capabilities and constraints.
- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge-sharing initiatives within the organisation.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure-focused roles.
- Strong proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, etc.).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar).
- Experience with scripting or programming languages (Python, Go, Bash, etc.).
- Understanding of networking, security principles, and best practices.
- Knowledge of observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.
