Interoperability breakthrough enhances pathology requests
Magentus has accelerated its national rollout of the interoperable eRequests solution by partnering with leading diagnostic company Healius.
eRequests enables digital referrals by medical specialist to pathology laboratories across Australia via the Genie and Gentu practice management platforms, providing real-time digital tracking of all pathology requests.
An SMS with testing details is sent directly to patients, who have the flexibility to use any of the testing locations in the receiving provider’s network.
Specialists using Genie or Gentu can follow the testing status of patients and see whether requests remain pending or are complete.
Pathology is integral to the health of all Australians, with 70% of all medical decisions and 100% of cancer diagnoses relying on a pathology test.
The digital-first partnership between Magentus and Healius adds more than 2,000 testing sites to the eRequests network, expanding the interoperable solution’s reach to the majority of Australia’s testing sites following an earlier rollout across Sonic Healthcare’s labs.
As Australia’s first Open FHIR API standards solution, eRequests also marks an important first step towards meeting the Department of Health and Aged Care’s long-term target state for eRequesting.
With two in every three Australian specialist doctors using Magentus practice management platforms – representing more than 45 specialties – eRequests can streamline a wide array of workflows and underpin future work on standards and collaborations for both pathology and radiology.
Michele Blanshard, CEO of Magentus’ Practice Management division, said:
“eRequests helps clinicians provide digital pathology requests to patients and labs, enabling tracking from the moment of creation to the delivery of results. The status of tests being visible to the referring practice builds more collaborative relationships by improving transparency between practices and laboratories. We’re excited to be working with Healius to provide better experiences for patients, medical specialists and lab workforces alike.”
Paul Anderson, Healius CEO, said:
“This digital request solution cuts wasteful duplication of diagnostic services, drives consumer choice, improves communication and visibility, and provides government with greater visibility of healthcare. It also reduces administrative overheads and saves clinicians, patients and labs significant amounts of time. Partnerships like this are the future of healthcare, ensuring people have all the support they need to provide the very best care.”
